The “2024 Hong Kong Outstanding University Students Award,” organized by Hong Kong Mingde, was concluded with the award presentation ceremony held on November 6 to commend outstanding university students. Dr. Lee Sheung Yan Lester, Executive President and Chairman of Hong Kong Mingde, expressed his wish that the awardees would maintain a positive spirit, contribute to the community in their respective fields, set good examples, and encourage their peers to give back to the community, thereby contributing to Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, as well as the country's strength and prosperity.

In his speech, Dr. Lee noted that this is the third consecutive year that Hong Kong Mingde has organized the “Hong Kong Outstanding University Students Award.” This annual program emphasizes university students' participation in public service affairs, utilizing experiential learning to lead students to engage in volunteer activities and capacity-building workshops. It aims to put the concept of “excellence” into perspective and highlight the importance of giving back to the community. He hopes that, in this era of opportunities and challenges, the awardees will seize the pulse of the times, be courageous, and actively participate in the development of the country and society.

Dr. Ko Wing Man, a member of the Executive Council, Woo Kin Man Clement, Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, and Ms. Chan Ting Yan, Principal Assistant Secretary for Home Affairs and Youth Affairs, were invited as officiating guests. They congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to continue utilizing their strengths to serve the community and contribute to Hong Kong and the country.

Nearly 300 applications were received, and 20 finalists were selected based on their academic achievements, community service, and participation in activities. The selected students come from different backgrounds and have actively participated in community services across various fields, contributing to society with their strengths. After careful selection and deliberation by the judges, the final ten outstanding university students were chosen following interviews. The finalists were awarded certificates and letters of recommendation from Hong Kong Mingde, and each of the ten outstanding students received a HK$10,000 cash prize.
Mr. Ng Hak Kim Eddie, former Secretary for Education, was the chief judge, and Mr. Bernard Chan, Chairman of our Hong Kong Foundation, was the star judge.

The awardees of the “Ten Outstanding University Students” are So Ching Hei, Fu Wing Kiu, Luk Ka Ying, Chan Sze Mei, Zhang Haang Yui Oscar from University of Hong Kong , Or Ka Ying Ice, Poon Yui Tung from Chinese University of Hong Kong, Suen Ka Wing from City University of Hong Kong , Ho Yan Har Jennifer from Education University of Hong Kong, and Lui Tsz Kei from Hong Kong Baptist University.
So Ching Hei, who is studying medicine at the University of Hong Kong, stated that he has participated in various activities organized by the Society of Hong Kong for the Promotion of Virtue, which has given him a better understanding of the needs of the underprivileged and career planning. He expressed his intention to maintain the spirit of the Society of Hong Kong in the future and to give back to society through his practice of medicine and research.
The second Inauguration Ceremony of Hong Kong Mingde was held at the same venue. Dr. Lee Sheung Yan Lester, Chairman of the Association, stated that all members of the Association will continue to work together to fulfill the important task of nurturing young people and creating more opportunities for the younger generation in Hong Kong. He looks forward to more aspiring young people and volunteers joining the Association to contribute to the development of youth in Hong Kong.
